Beauty Abounds

Nature's symmetry and design are amazing! My analogy may not mean anything to most of you because you are chronologically limited, but this flower reminds me of the old Grange dances. The boys (stamens) are spread out on the outside of the hall with the girls (pistils) hovering together for protection. Rarely, it seemed, did one of the boys have the courage to approach one of the girls for a dance. Where were the couples, you ask? They were all outside 'smoochin' (an archival term which, in the recent vocabulary, surfaced as 'sucking face'). I guess the system ultimately worked as those Grange dance attendees are the grandparents of today.

This flower abounds in Greater Pugetopolis being the nemesis of most landowners. The flower has a pink blush when first opened which fades to white as it matures. When fertilized the stamens produce a collection of really sweet, dark fruits we know as blackberries.
