Behold the Lowly Clover We've all had fleeting glimpses of clover growing in the fields and along the roadsides in Greater Pugetopolis. Unfortunately many of us don't have the eyesight, flexibility, inclination or all of these to try to get a close look at these blossoms. As you can see, they are indeed made up of many delicate individual flowers. These extremely beneficial plants, like all legumes, have formed a productive symbiosis with a bacterium, Rhizobium sp., that grows in nodules on the roots of the plants and fix nitrogen for the plant and soil. Should you need to pull one of these that might be growing where you don't want it, take a close look at the roots and you will see the nodules where the nitrogen fixing factory was busily at work before you interceded.
